Firefighters have extinguished a brush fire in the area of mile marker 29 on Highway 190, also known as Mamalahoa Highway, in North Kona.

Firefighters have extinguished a brush fire in the area of mile marker 29 on Highway 190, also known as Mamalahoa Highway, in North Kona.

The fire, located approximately two miles north, or Waimea side, of the Makalei Golf Course and Country Club burned about 1.5 acres on the makai side of the highway, according to the Hawaii County Civil Defense and the Hawaii County Fire Department.

The highway has also reopened to both directions of travel.
